PRETTY PRESS ISSUE #1

Its been a long LONG road for us. A barge and a road to be exact. It has just been over a year now that we moved off Macleay Island, Redland Bay, after successfully purchasing our dream farm that is nestled in the deeply striking valley leading to Lamington National Park, near Canungra.

A metaphorical road exists too, although lined with rows of blossoming flowers no less, and it has been one that has taught me (and so many others in the process) about what you can do with edible flowers. I adore the weekly communications that I get from all kinds of people from far and wide, both home and abroad. They all have one thing in common – they speak initially of the surprise about edibility of flowers and its sheer scope. They express the joy and pleasure of what adding edible flowers to foods and drinks can give to them and to the people they love.

Its this one word “LOVE’ that sums up my addiction to flowers in a nutshell. I love the colours. I love the beauty. I love the sense of occasion. I love the special gestures. I love the reaction I get, by sending something of my passion to someone else to share. I love walking alongside my chemical-free gardens and watching seedlings grow and bloom into the most precious of mother’s natures jewels. I love the feeling of creativity when designing flower cookies. I love the flowers in the golden light of the early morning or late afternoon. How could you not love working with flowers? They lift the soul and the heart skyward, even in times of darkness or despair.

Talking of darkness - during these COVID times, when we have endured a pandemic in our lifetimes times that has ensured lockdowns and social distancing, it has never been so important for urban folk to reconnect with green spaces, with nature, with fresh air and with also their farmers. To have their hearts lifted by the security of food sovereignty. To know that food growers exist close by that have ‘got their backs’ in case the completely evanescent fabric of society should crumble to dust.

And so the dusty road continues. One that is opening us up to endless possibilities with research and development projects, workshops, Wild Flower Forest concept and much more. In a time where people are thirsting for local and green small businesses. Silver linings are a glorious thing
