We are borderline nuts if you really want to know. How can it be that we have created three farms from scratch and then finally migrated the farm and family off an island via barge, seven trucks and three utes, in four days out to our beautiful jewel here at Canungra, QLD, all within five years? Even saying this, I shake my head at the crazy tenacity it takes and think “Did we really do all that??”
Yes, people have been certified for much less. They say there is a fine line between passion and madness (or maybe that was just me) however at the end of the day if you do not try – you do not know. My dad has always said, “if you never take the risk, then you never know” and it’s a huge risk taken to change your careers midstream and jump into the flowery deep end with just intuition telling you what to do (that’s a different story entirely about gut intuition by the way!). There are so many clichés, one my favourites are “Fortune favours the Brave”. Both Dave and I are brave and hard-working people. We set goals and we go for them. We don’t question the obvious load it will take to make them achievable.
Sometimes they are a success, sometimes catastrophic. Yet in-between there has been such a rich and dynamic experience that I can’t imagine not ever taking the risk.
Currently the Pretty Produce brand has completely evolved out of edible flowers (although keep your eyes peeled for a book eventually) and into other passions that involve the growing of Cut Flowers varieties like Dahlias, Zinnias and Cosmos Flowers with intention to enjoy breeding different new varieties for release in the future. Also, there has been much research into pressing flowers for usage in art processes and intended to be used in all artistic pursuits.
